NIC to Hold ‘Hydrogen in the Oil and Gas Industry’ Webinar

Fri, 07 January, 2022

The Non-Metallic Innovation Centre is holding a webinar dedicated to ‘Hydrogen in the Oil and Gas Industry’ on 8 February 2022.

The event, which will take place online from 15:00-16:00 GMT, is ideal for anyone who is interested in addressing the barriers of hydrogen utilisation as a green and renewable energy resource and aiding the transition towards this carbon neutral energy solution.

Oil and gas companies are pursuing multi-million pound projects related to using hydrogen as an alternative energy source, but among the challenges faced by industry is the establishment of an infrastructure system to store and distribute hydrogen in a sustainable and economically viable way.

The potential transportation solutions for hydrogen include the transformation of hydrogen (H2) to ammonia (NH4), the use of other liquid organic hydrogen carriers, or as compressed liquefied H2. However, without an understanding of the effect of any identified carriers on the materials used in transportation and storage, it is impossible to present accurate lifecycle cost assessments for hydrogen as a clean energy resource.

This webinar, hosted by the NIC’s polymer and composite technologies expert, George V. Theodosopoulos MSc, PhD, will investigate the challenges and potential for non-metallic materials use for hydrogen energy delivery.
