Delivery of Training on Non-Metallic Pipes for ADNOC

The oil and gas industry is undergoing a transformative shift, driven by innovative solutions and advanced technologies. In this era of sustainability and operational excellence, non-metallic composite pipes have emerged as an alternative, offering numerous advantages over traditional metal pipes. To harness the full potential of this game-changing technology, ADNOC has partnered with TWI and the Non-Metallic Innovation Centre (NIC) to develop novel non-metallic solutions through collaborations with rest of the supply chain and academia.

As part of this framework, TWI and the NIC were tasked to deliver a comprehensive three-level training course, titled, ‘Non-Metallic Composite Pipes in Oil and Gas Applications.’ This training programme was hosted at the ADNOC Research and Innovation Centre (ADRIC) and successfully concluded by Dr Farshad Salamat-Zadeh and Dr Sadik Omairey.

The programme of this training, designed to deepen the knowledge and skills of ADNOC engineers in the field of non-metallic composite pipes, underlines ADNOC's commitment to staying at the forefront of industry advancements, thereby contributing significantly to the region's economic growth and energy sustainability.

The three levels of this training programme provided a comprehensive understanding of non-metallic composite pipes, including Flexible Composite Pipes (FCP) (which covers Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipes (RTP) and Thermoplastic Composite Pipes (TCP)) and Reinforced Thermosetting Resin pipes (RTRs). The breakdown of the training course levels is as follows:

  • Level I - Foundations of Non-Metallic Pipes and Pipelines: This level introduced the fundamentals of non-metallic composite pipes, highlighting their advantages, materials, manufacturing processes, and standards
  • Level II - Installation and Deployment of Non-Metallic Pipes and Pipelines: Building on the foundation of Level I, this level emphasized the intricacies of installing and deploying non-metallic pipes effectively to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Level III - Advanced Topics in Non-Metallic Pipes and Pipelines: The final level addressed complex subjects and emerging trends in non-metallic composite pipes, allowing ADNOC engineers to explore cutting-edge technologies and innovations in the field

Delivering these three levels, Dr Farshad Salamat-Zadeh and Dr Sadik Omairey brought their extensive knowledge and practical insights to the training. ADNOC subject matter experts contributed and gained valuable expertise through this programme, empowering them to effectively address real-world industry challenges and explore the potentials to expand the utilisation of non-metallic flexible and rigid pipes within ADNOC operations.
