NIC Student Wins NSIRC Conference Presentation Award

Tue, 23 August, 2022

NIC student, Mohammad Alghfeli won the NSIRC 3rd year Oral Presentation Award at the NSIRC conference, held at TWI Cambridge.

Mohammad’s presentation, ‘An approach to enhanced HDPE nanocomposites,’ outlined the emerging industrial need for high performance thermoplastics at lower costs than can currently be achieved using conventional polymer processing routes.

He described how advanced spectroscopic techniques are providing an insight into the interfacial chemistry between inorganic additives in organic polymers and how these insights can be used to minimise incompatibility and so lead to improved dispersion techniques.

Mohammad illustrated his presentation with rheological data and a video demonstrating how the functionalisation of inorganic additives changes their inherent hydrophilic character into superhydrophobic behaviour.

A student at Cambridge University, Mohammad is sponsored in his work by ADNOC and we would like to congratulate him award for the presentation, which was very well received on the day.
